A Winter Tag

Thank you so much to Geraldine from Geraldine Talks for nominating me to take part in this tag and a big thank you to Ell from ellduclos.blog for creating it!

I really enjoy taking part in tags and nominating other bloggers because I feel as though they help us connect as a community and gives us something to generate new friendships by doing so.

But on to the first question of this Winter Tag…

What is your favourite holiday tradition?

For me, it’s a simple one. As a family, we all go up to our local pub and have a few drinks together. We bump into friends and extended family there and it’s just a wonderful time to see everyone!

Depending on how I’m feeling, I then have to decide if I want to go to Christmas Midnight Mass. Our local church is literally across the road from the pub so if I’m feeling up to it, which I have been for the past 2 years, then my Dad and I will go over together.

What is your favourite Winter scent?

I’m pretty sure this question is talking about a candle scent, right?

But I’m going to have to answer a bit differently seeing as my favourite scent around Winter time is the scent of our Christmas tree. Every year we get a real tree to put up and I adore the smell of it. It makes the room smell so clean but also so cosy and Christmassy. I just love it.

What is your favourite winter go-to fashioned trend?

Normally, it’s big cosy jumpers but this year coats have really been doing it for me. It’s probably because I didn’t own many coats before this Winter and now I have too many to choose from.

The high street has been full of wonderful coats and I wish I could just buy them all!

What is your all-time favourite holiday movie?

It has and always will be, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I honestly love it and I watch it every year without fail.

To me, it’s an absolute classic.

What’s your favourite all-time holiday tune?

This may have something to do with the fact that my mother is Irish, but it’s Fairytale of New York by The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl. I love how honest and fun the song is and it’s just a good laugh to sing.

Hearing this song for the first time means that Christmas has officially begun!

Do you prefer to travel or stay at home during the holidays?

I don’t mind travelling around during the Christmas season, but I have to be at home on Christmas Day. To be away on Christmas itself feels wrong and I don’t enjoy it much either.

(Although, one of the times that I’ve been away for Christmas turned out to be the Best Christmas Ever but there’s a reason for it. I’ll be posting about that on the 22nd!)

What’s your favourite winter activity?

Visiting Christmas Markets for sure. Even if it’s just my local one, I really enjoy it.

My Mum and I had planned to go to Bath to visit the markets this year, but life got in the way so we couldn’t! But, I’m visiting my best friend in London and she said she’ll take me to their markets and Winter Wonderland instead.

Do you love or hate the snow?

What is one item on your wish list this year?

I only have one and it’s to redecorate my room. I’ve managed to clear my wardrobes and get the bed out so now it’s down to my parents to take the wardrobes out before we can start painting!

(I will keep you updated on this!)

What is your favourite holiday treat?

Anything mint chocolate. Mint chocolate is my downfall at Christmas time and because everyone knows it’s my favourite I end up receiving a massive pile full of different minty treats each year.

I’m definitely not complaining though, as they last me well into the New Year!

The next part of the Tag is my favourite, to nominate bloggers to take part!

  1. Such a fab post Niamh! I 100% agree on the Christmas tree scent, it’s one of my fave things around Christmas time, coming home and it being the first thing that you smell – ahh it’s Christmas!

Yes Fairytale on New York, is such an amazing song. I’ve never learnt all the words but I sing the chorus loud and my family just laughs. It definitely feels like Christmas has begun when that song is around!

I hope you enjoy winter wonderland! I’m going in a couple of weeks, and I’m so excited! Last time I went (5 years ago) it was so magical and festive! I had lots of fun, I’m sure you will too!

Thank you so much for tagging me, I look forward to writing this!

    Love, Abby x

  2. Thank you for nominating me! 🙂 I love mint chocolate too… when we buy the after eights it’s such a dangerous thing for me because I will sit there and eat the whole packet, I often feel sick afterwards but it’s so delicious!!

  3. Loved your answers. The smell of a real Christmas tree is the best, and mint chocolate is HEAVENLY! I used to go to midnight mass with my parents when I lived with them, and it was a nice tradition to do as a family 🙂
