My Latest Book Haul

As you can see, I have recently gone on a mini book spree. Lately, I’ve been attracted to books written by and telling stories of women. I feel as though I have a lot to learn as a young woman living in this social climate and thought that these books would help start my journey of discovering what sort of woman I am, and would like to become.

I’ll be telling you of the 5 books that I’ve bought, 3 of which are about feminism. I find that feminism is a word that had been thrown around quite a bit over the last couple of years and I’m still not too sure of its ins and outs. Buying these books has made me excited to learn about the movement and what it means to other women and also by the end, myself.

The other 2 are fashion and lifestyle books. One is to indulge myself in my love of fashion and blogging and the other is to help me take on changing how I’m currently living my life.

This is the only book of the 5 that I’ve started to read (once I’m done, I’ll be swiftly moving on to the next!).

I began with this because it was the first that I bought, and it was the one that I was most excited about. I had seen numerous women sharing pictures and opinions of it online and I couldn’t wait to indulge myself in the stories of these wonderful women.

This was the book that made me buy the rest of them, all with the similar knowledge that I’d like to process and learn. I feel like this is the right time, as a young woman, to embark on this road of learning about womanhood and I’m very much up to learning the good, bad and ugly side of it all.

I had never heard of this book when I saw it in my ‘Recommended’ list on Amazon. It jumped out at me just because of the bold title and it’s significance to me.

Although the Spice Girls were raging throughout the 90s and I was only born in ’97, I was still a massive fan of theirs. The way I got to listen to them was because of this wonderful human called ‘Ginger Spice’, aka Geri Halliwell and as a young ginger myself, I had never seen such a glorious woman in my decade of being alive.

But, back to the book,  I carried on reading the product description and saw that the book was about how the ‘Girl Power Generation Grew Up’ and it was at reading that I added it to my basket.

I know I was about 10 years out of this age bracket but the Spice Girls still had an impact on my life and I’m really excited to see how this book develops.

So, the next book I bought was Life Honestly by The Pool, who are a collective of women who have come together to tell their own opinions. The subheading of this book says “strong opinions from small women” and I think it was this idea that really drew me to the book. It’s a very similar idea to Feminist Don’t Wear Pink but I wanted to get a wider view from women that I didn’t necessarily know about, as the first book includes various women from various popular culture platforms.

I feel as though, if I’d like to truly learn about something, then I’m going to have to get my knowledge from a wide range of people and has numerous books with the voices of such diverse women will teach me a lot more than just taking from my own current life experiences.

I realised by researching the book that it was similar, in its contents and its teachings it was trying to get across, to the first book. Seeing as I’m enjoying the first a lot, I feel like the similarity in the stories and themes throughout this one will appeal to me just as much. I’m really excited to read it and I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the year.

I have seen this book everywhere and that’s probably because it’ s written by fellow blogger, Inthefrow. Victoria is probably one of the, if not the biggest influencers in Britain at the moment and I am so happy that she’s put all of her knowledge and experiences into a single book for us all to read. Even by just flicking through, I know that I’m going to enjoy it as it seems like a book that you can take your time reading.

There’s plenty of modern photography, plenty of fashion pictures included and a few little extras pages like mini blog post such as “My most used apps and why they’re amazing”, which is going to make this book a lot more enjoyable for me to read.

The New Fashion Rules contains 40 chapters, from what I can see, and each of them is so different but so essential to making this book as useful as it is. It’s fresh, stylish and has plenty of themes and subjects that I am intrigued to read and to learn about.

I’m just really happy that Victoria decided to create this book as I feel it’ll help a lot of bloggers and influencers on their way through this social world. This book seems to tick all of the boxes for me, you can see the thought process that has gone into it and visually it really is amazing, in my opinion anyway.

I have yet to actually read it but I’m sure once I get started, I won’t be able to put it down until it’s done.

Similarly to The New Fashion Rules, I’ve seen this bit of magic lying around the Instagram stories of bloggers & influencers alike. I think that it’s such an in your face idea for a book that makes it so appealing. Sarah Knight decided to not beat around the bush and it has definitely paid off.

I personally bought this book because I find it hard to say no to certain things with certain people because I like to try and be nice, even though I might not want to do that certain thing. When I saw the cover and title of this book, I know instantly that I needed it in my life.

I’m hoping that this book will give me the courage to live my life honestly and how I want to and also teach me a whole range of different life tips. I feel like it will teach me a hell of a lot as it covers themes from ‘Friends’ to ‘Family’ to your work situation. There are also a few things here that I feel will help me through the next few years of my young adulting life.

The design of this book is stunning and aesthetically very pleasing, especially with the metallic pink on the cover and I just feel as though it’s just a nice, good sized, hardback and I’m very very very excited to read it.

So, these are all the recently bought books of mine. If I buy any more I am sure to include them in a follow up to this post. The only trouble is, I do like to take my time reading books. I’m only halfway through the first one and I feel like the rest will also take some time.

In the meantime, please let me know in the comments if there are similar book surrounding women and their stories that you enjoyed and that you’d like to recommend.

Thank you again for everything and I’m hopefully going to get a new post up soon within the week.

Love you all X

  1. You are an amazing writer. I actually really enjoyed reading this post! Why do I say actually? Because many bloggers can wax on and I never expected to like a book review let alone a why I bought this book list. Your writing is fluid, smooth, and clean. It is mentally relaxing to read good writing like this. Keep writing. If you are young I can only imagine the type of writer you will become in later adulthood! You’ve sold me on all of these books. I’ve saved this post so I can come back to the list. Following your blog. Keep up the good work!
