Since it’s the last day of the month, and this year, I thought I’d share a quick overview of my favourite songs from the past 4 weeks. It’s a good little mix of old and new songs and is a list I came up with rather quickly. This is probably down to the fact I’m constantly working or doing some sort of uni work so I’m flicking to the same tracks every time.
So please go and give at least one of these songs a good listen to if you get the chance.
Havana – Camilla Cabello ft. Young Thug
As soon as this song was released, I was hooked. The salsa rhythms running right through it made me want to move like Camilla every time I heard it. It’s cool, it’s sexy and it’s everything you’d want from a song called ‘Havana’. I love the modern twist that Young Thug brings to the track too.
Feel It Still – Portugal, The Man
I was introduced to this song by my boyfriend who heard it on Radio 1 and he thought I’d like it, and I’d like to thank him for that because I really do. The bass riff throughout the song gives it such a laid back feel and having the brass on it as well adds to that element even more. Whatever it is you’re doing when listening to this song, it’s one of the ones that just makes want to give your shoulders a little shake.
When we were on our little road trip that we took earlier in the month, it was one of those songs that we kept going back to listen to. Proof that it’s a favourite.
Too Good at Goodbyes – Sam Smith
I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of Sam Smith’s voice. I loved his first album and adore his second, more particularly this song. He is so good at making his songs relatable and finds just the right words to help us get through the same situation. It’s probably because we all go through the exact same feelings as each other that him and his songs feel so real. He just turns the pain and experiences into beautiful works of art instead.
What You Know – Two Door Cinema Club
Even though this song is 6 years old, it’s one of those songs that reminds me of my youth. I remember watching a set that Two Door Cinema Club did at Glastonbury one year on BBC Three and since then I’ve found myself always going back to them when I need a little lift or some songs to sing along too.
But this particular song is one of my favourites because it came on randomly on a Spotify playlist earlier on in the month and it made me so happy to hear it after such a long time.
Silence – Marshmello ft. Khalid
Khalid has one of those voices that sounds so effortless which makes him so damn easy to listen to. Those couple of weeks after he dropped his debut album ‘American Dream’, I literally only listened to that one record. But then came ‘Silence’ and having that beat behind one of the most recognisable voices out at the minute, just makes this song so much more.
Sometimes features just don’t work out, but ones like this mold themselves into one of the best songs of the year.
And to finish off, I’d just like to point out how much Khalid, and many of the other artists mentioned in the post, have absolutely killed 2017. Well done you.
